Billy Esratian is a PhD in Law candidate at the Australian National University (ANU). At the ANU, Billy’s research focuses in legal theory and Southeast Asian legal studies. His Ph.D. topic, in particular, observes the retention of the death penalty in several Southeast Asian states, including Malaysia Before joining the ANU, Billy served as an Advisor at the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Indonesia (EOP), where he oversaw and managed strategic issues comprising politics, law, defence, security, and human rights. Simultaneous to his EOP’s tenure, Billy also served in Indonesia’s National Task Force on Business and Human Rights. Billy obtained his legal education from Universitas Gadjah Mada and Harvard Law School.
